Most tunings are $200. Here is when they are not.

I check the instrument, explain the work, and discuss the price before I proceed. Most appointments begin with one of these three paths.

I adjust string tension so the intervals between notes return to tune. A typical visit takes one to two hours.

Pitch correction

If a piano has gone a long time without tuning, it may need extra tension brought back in stages. That can mean one or two additional passes and a follow-up tuning three to six months later.

Touch and tone

$100 per hour

Regulation brings the action's moving parts back to an even, responsive feel. Voicing shapes the hammers so the tone can move toward bright and punchy or warm and intimate.

A full regulation and voicing usually takes around seven hours.

My route includes private pianos, schools, and a symphony or two.

I regularly work with private owners, piano teachers, churches, schools, and stores. On occasion, there is a symphony in the schedule too.

I tune full time, in homes and at Classic Pianos.

I have worked as a musician, teacher, composer, and tuner in the Denver area for over 10 years. Piano tuning and service are now my full-time work.

Alongside appointments throughout the Front Range, I work at Classic Pianos Denver. I prepare purchased instruments so they leave tuned and regulated, and I maintain the store's rental fleet.

I am also rebuilding my own piano. Long-term care is work I know from both sides of the bench.
